INVOKANA and INVOKAMET LAWSUIT – Clearwater

WE ARE CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING AND EVALUATING claims on behalf of those injured due to taking Invokana and Invokamet. Invokana and Invokamet, which belong to a class of diabetes medications called SGLT2 inhibitors, have been available for two years, and their combined sales hit $318 million in the second quarter of 2015. However, in May the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it was investigating a potential association between SGLT2 inhibitors like Invokana and diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious condition that can lead to diabetic coma and death.

IT IS ALLEGED that the manufacturers and marketers of SGLT2 inhibitors (such as Johnson & Johnson, Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc., AstraZeneca & Boehringer Ingelheim) failed to warn patients and physicians of the increased risks of kidney failure, myocardial infarction (heart attacks), other cardiovascular issues and ketoacidosis. The lawsuits provide that if the manufacturers and marketers had properly warned of the risks, patients would have been prescribed and taken a substitute medication for their diabetes, and certainly would have had their health monitored on a more routine basis for potential signs of heart issues, renal impairment, and high level of ketones.

THE FDA has issued an alert regarding a potential association between Invokana and Invokamet and an increased risk of bone fractures and reduced bone density. According to the agency, it has added a new Warning and Precaution and revised the Adverse Reactions section of the drugs’ labels to better reflect these safety concerns. The FDA action was prompted by new information from several clinical trials confirming that FRACTURES were more likely among Invokana and Invokamet patients compared to those taking a placebo. The trials indicated that such fractures can occur as early as 12 weeks after treatment has begun, and may be associated with minor trauma, such as a fall from standing height.

If you or a loved one suffered from taking Invokana and Invokamet, you may have legal recourse. For more information, call today to have your case reviewed, FREE OF CHARGE.
