Florida PIP Law Firm Serving Tampa, St Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota & Other Locations Statewide
In Florida, “PIP” is short for personal injury protection, and is a form of car insurance that anyone with a Florida driver’s license is required to carry. PIP insurance is used to pay for medical bills and lost wages following a serious accident. Even if you are not at fault, Florida PIP insurance law dictates that your own insurance company will step in and compensate you for your losses. Fighting over who was “at fault” in causing an accident therefore isn’t always necessary. The primary advantage of the Florida no-fault system is that it gives victims of auto accidents better odds of getting the compensation that they need.
Recent changes to Florida PIP laws will likely make compensation harder to come by, however. At the law firm of Reeder & Nussbaum, P.A. in St Petersburg, FL, we represent individuals who have been denied coverage or think that they are being treated unfairly by their insurance company. Partners Andy Reeder, Esq. and Marc B. Nussbaum, Esq. are seasoned personal injury attorneys who can represent you in your quest for compensation.
Effective January 1, 2013, individuals will have just 14 days from the date of an auto accident to seek medical treatment for their injuries. Otherwise, compensation can be denied. New Florida PIP laws also limit compensation to just $2,500 unless an auto accident victim can demonstrate to a medical doctor (M.D.) or doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) that she is suffering from an “emergency medical condition” – in which case the allowable compensation amount can be raised to up to $10,000.
